Leaders from Bank of America, Delaware Technical Community College, and Colonial School District joined students at William Penn High School on April 8 to celebrate the launch of a new accelerated patient care technician/nursing pathway program.

Delaware Tech received the Bank of America Neighborhood Builders® Award to help meet community needs through programs and services addressing secondary education, 工作准备, and workforce development. A portion of this funding is being used to increase the pipeline of allied health and nursing students through a patient care technician/nursing pathway program at William Penn High School.

“Students who complete courses in this pathway program will not only graduate high school with 12 college credits, but they will also be prepared to enter highly competitive academic programs in health care,” said Delaware Tech President Mark T. 布雷纳德. “And we know that dual enrollment programs provide students with the incentive they need to graduate from high school, 报读大学, and earn their degrees.”

The pilot program will provide an opportunity for up to 15 sophomores at William Penn to earn college credits before they receive their high school diploma. 除了, these students will earn workforce credentials that will enable them to start jobs in the health care industry while they are completing their college degrees.

“We are thrilled to join Delaware Tech in this innovative educational opportunity,艾米·斯拉玛说, allied health teacher at William Penn High School. “The students selected are excited to get a head start on college credits and experience, network and connect with college professors and healthcare workers, and gain insight into their future careers.”

As a result of support from the Neighborhood Builders® Award, the students participating in this new program are able to complete these college credit courses for free, kickstarting their pathway to an associate degree in nursing or patient care technician certification while still in high school.

“The partnership between Delaware Tech and William Penn High School addresses significant needs throughout Delaware,奇普·罗西说。, 总统, Bank of America Delaware. “Providing Delaware Tech with flexible funding and leadership training not only supports this innovative academic program but creates career opportunities for many young students in Delaware now and in the future.”
